What the verdict means
The DPI tag is not quality
A file can announce 72 DPI and print 24 inches without complaint. The tag is one line in the header; what counts is the pixel count. Fixing the tag takes a second and changes nothing in the image. The manoeuvre, and its limits.
Density reached accounts for cropping
A square pushed into 3:4 loses a quarter of its surface, so pixels with it. The density column is computed on the side that limits, the way a print shop does it.
Below 300 DPI, not all is lost
A poster hung two metres away only needs 150 to 200 DPI. Useful density depends on viewing distance: the full scale.
Verdict says too small?
The workshop rebuilds the missing pixels with a neural network, in your browser, and writes the file at 300 DPI. Its interface is in French for now.
